Why Edition reviews a thread lift at about one month, what the surgeon looks at, how swelling is cared for in the weeks before, and when to contact the clinic sooner instead of waiting.
After a thread lift at Edition, patients come back at around one month so that the surgeon can see how the tissue has settled. Before that visit, swelling and tightness usually ease over three to seven days, temporary unevenness mostly improves within one to two weeks, and the face continues to look more natural over one to three months.
The one-month visit is not the first of a fixed series of appointments, nor a step towards a scheduled retouch. It is a check of your own face at a point when the early changes have passed, and what happens next is decided from what it shows. This page covers what the visit is for, how swelling is looked after in the meantime, and when to get in touch sooner.
Swelling care after a thread lift is mostly a matter of what to avoid: rubbing, massage, firm pressure and sleeping face down for the first two weeks, and vigorous exercise, alcohol and saunas for about two weeks. Edition's aftercare also includes an anti-swelling injection. At about a month the surgeon reviews how things have settled, and any further step is decided from that examination rather than from a calendar.
Why is the check at about one month?
By around one month, the most visible early changes of a thread lift — swelling, tightness and short-lived unevenness along the thread paths — have normally passed. What remains is closer to the settled shape, and that is what needs assessing. An earlier look would mostly be judging swelling; a much later one would miss the chance to review the early course.
The one-month timing is a general guide rather than a fixed number of visits. Its purpose is simply to check your condition.
What does the surgeon look at during the visit?
The follow-up compares your face with the plan made before the thread lift. Because photographs are taken beforehand as a reference point, the review has something concrete to compare with rather than relying on memory. The surgeon looks at how the lifted areas have settled and whether anything in the course of recovery needs attention.
The visit is also the time for your own questions: sensations you have noticed, how the face feels when you smile or chew, and what to expect in the months that follow.
How is swelling looked after before the check?
Most swelling care after a thread lift consists of not adding pressure or heat while tissue settles. From the next day, washing and light make-up are fine, but the face should not be rubbed. While swelling and tightness ease over three to seven days, vigorous exercise, alcohol and saunas are avoided. For the first two weeks, massage, firm pressure on the face and sleeping face down are avoided as well.
A dull ache or pulling sensation for two to three days is common, and pain relief can be prescribed if needed. Edition's aftercare also includes an anti-swelling injection (Multi-Blue); ask the clinic whether it is relevant to your recovery.
| Period | What is usually noticed | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|
| The next day | Work, washing and light make-up are possible | Rubbing the face, massage |
| Days three to seven | Swelling and tightness gradually easing | Vigorous exercise, alcohol, saunas |
| Weeks one to two | Temporary unevenness and pulling mostly improving | Massage, firm pressure, sleeping face down |
| From about two weeks | Exercise, alcohol and saunas can resume | Firm-pressure facial treatments such as gyeongrak massage |
| About one month | Follow-up visit to review progress | Firm-pressure facial treatments |
| One to three months | Tissue settles and looks more natural | Firm-pressure treatments for at least three months |
These stages describe an average course. Individual skin, and the extent of what was treated, can move them in either direction.
When should I contact the clinic before the visit?
There is no need to wait for the one-month follow-up to ask a question. If something looks or feels different from the course described here — unevenness that is still not improving once the first two weeks have passed, for instance, or anything that worries you — contact the clinic. During recovery, progress can be discussed in real time through Edition's KakaoTalk channel, or by phone on 02-591-0100.
Does the one-month visit set a date for a retouch?
No. Edition does not schedule thread-lift retouches in advance or at fixed intervals. After the one-month review, any later step is decided by examining your condition at the time the question comes up, because how long an effect lasts depends on individual factors such as skin elasticity, the pace of ageing and the type of thread used.
What about massage and other treatments after the check?
Firm-pressure treatments such as gyeongrak facial massage are avoided for at least three months after a thread lift, even though the follow-up comes earlier. If an energy-based treatment such as Ultherapy is being considered, the general guide is to wait four to six weeks, with the actual timing agreed with the doctor.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to come back at one month?
It is part of the aftercare Edition asks for. It is the point at which the surgeon reviews how the tissue has settled, and it is a check of your condition rather than the start of a fixed series of visits.
Can I have the anti-swelling injection?
Multi-Blue is among Edition's aftercare options. Ask the clinic whether it is relevant to your recovery.
When can I sleep on my front again?
Sleeping face down is avoided for the first two weeks. If you are unsure after that, ask the clinic.
The pulling feeling is still there in the second week. Is that normal?
Tightness and unevenness usually improve within one to two weeks, and individual courses vary. If it is not easing, or it worries you, contact the clinic rather than waiting for the follow-up.
Can I book a facial massage after the one-month check?
Firm-pressure treatments such as gyeongrak massage are avoided for at least three months after the procedure.
Will I be given a date for my next thread lift?
No. Any retouch is decided from your condition at the time, not set in advance.
