At Edition in Gangnam, the thread-lift consultation covers who plans and performs the lift, the cause of sagging, a plan fixed in advance, procedure-room safety and a dated recovery schedule.
A thread-lift consultation at Edition Plastic Surgery, one minute on foot from Gangnam Station Exit 10, covers five things before any procedure is booked: who will plan and perform the lift, why your face has changed, what the plan contains, how the procedure room is prepared, and what recovery looks like day by day. Each of these is explained to you in the room and can be asked about again at any point.
The consultation takes around twenty to thirty minutes. This page walks through what happens in that time and what you leave with, so that you know what to expect when you arrive.
It also explains the one outcome some patients do not expect: a consultation at Edition can end with a recommendation for something other than threads.
At Edition, the representative surgeon, Dr. Dae-hee Han, a board-certified plastic surgeon, assesses the face, separates the causes of sagging and reviews previous treatments. If threads suit the face, the plan names the thread type, the direction of lift and a reference thread count, and it is fixed before the procedure day. Procedure-room safety and a dated recovery schedule are explained at the same visit, and the answer may point to a different treatment where threads are not suited.
Who will plan and perform my thread lift at Edition?
Thread lifting at Edition is handled by Dr. Dae-hee Han, the clinic's representative surgeon and a board-certified plastic surgeon. He obtained his medical licence in 2009 and his specialist certification in 2014. Skin and minor aesthetic treatments are handled by a separate doctor at the clinic.
This is stated at the start of the consultation so that you know whose assessment the plan is based on and who you will see again at the follow-up visit.
What does Edition look at first?
Edition begins with the cause of the change. Sagging is separated into three possibilities: loss of elasticity in the skin itself, a change in the position of fat, and loosening of the retaining ligaments that hold tissue in place. Each of these calls for a different response.
Previous treatments are reviewed at the same stage. If you have had filler, fat grafting, earlier threads, laser or radiofrequency treatment, the type, timing and current condition of the tissue are checked. A history of this kind does not rule out a thread lift on its own; it is information that goes into the design.
What does the thread-lift plan contain?
Once the diagnosis is made, the plan is set out in terms you can repeat back. At Edition it names the thread and the reason for it: PDO threads (Silhouette Fix, Mint), Silhouette Soft or Aptos, each chosen for a particular kind of descent. It describes the direction of lift, which is designed from the front, at 45 degrees and in profile, with tissue moved outward and towards the area behind the hairline.
The plan also gives a thread count. Across the whole face the average is around 14, and that figure is adjusted to the degree of sagging and the goal. At Edition, placement and direction are treated as more important than the number.
Are photographs taken, and when is the plan fixed?
Photographs are taken at Edition as a baseline, so that the result can later be checked against the starting point. The plan agreed at the analysis and design stage is then the plan that is carried out. It is not expanded on the day in the procedure room; if a change seems necessary, it returns to consultation first.
How is the procedure room at Edition prepared?
The thread lift itself takes around fifteen to twenty minutes at Edition. The procedure room is equipped with real-time monitoring during procedures, an uninterruptible power supply, CCTV, emergency equipment including a defibrillator, an emergency manual, and CO2 sterilisation. Local anaesthesia is the standard approach, and short sedation can be added to reduce discomfort; whether it is used is decided at consultation according to your condition.
What will I be told about recovery?
Recovery at Edition is explained with dates. Work, face washing and light make-up are possible from the next day. Swelling and tightness settle over three to seven days, and temporary unevenness mostly improves within one to two weeks. Exercise, alcohol and saunas can resume after about two weeks, and strong pressure such as deep facial massage is avoided for at least three months.
Progress is checked at around one month, and a swelling-care injection (Multi-Blue) is part of aftercare. Questions during recovery can be sent through the clinic's KakaoTalk channel. Edition does not set a fixed schedule for repeat procedures; after the check at around one month, any later retouch is decided according to the condition of the face at that time. These timings describe an average course and vary with the individual.

Can the consultation recommend something other than threads?
Yes. Where skin has stretched considerably, threads can reposition tissue but cannot reduce the excess skin, and a facelift may be discussed. Where volume loss is part of the picture, volume restoration such as a collagen booster may be considered alongside threads. Where fat volume is the main cause, liposuction or contouring is looked at first. These conclusions come from the same diagnosis described above.
Frequently asked questions
Who performs thread lifts at Edition?
Thread lifting is handled by Dr. Dae-hee Han, a board-certified plastic surgeon. Skin and minor aesthetic treatments are handled by a separate doctor at the clinic.
How long is the consultation?
Around twenty to thirty minutes. The procedure itself takes around fifteen to twenty minutes, depending on the patient's condition and the extent of treatment.
Will I be told how many threads I need?
You will be given a reference. The average across the whole face is around 14, adjusted to the degree of sagging and the goal, and placement and direction are treated as more important than the number.
Do previous filler or thread treatments stop a thread lift?
Not on their own. The type, timing and current state of the earlier treatment are checked at consultation and taken into account in the design.
Is there a set schedule for retouches?
No. Progress is checked at around one month, and any later retouch is decided according to the condition of the face at that time.
