The two often occur together. If lax skin blocks your vision or your eyelashes poke your eyes, the functional problem is addressed at the same time, and as a result, the impression of your eyes changes as well.

Upper blepharoplasty removes excess sagging eyelid skin, muscle, and fat, while ptosis correction treats ptosis, a condition in which the muscle that opens the eye is weak. We first check for ptosis and then decide which surgery is needed.

In many cases, lax eyelid skin covers the crease. We remove the excess skin while forming the crease again, and the height and shape of the resulting crease vary by individual depending on skin thickness and eye structure.

We decide by looking at whether sagging of the upper eyelids has a greater effect on your vision or impression, or whether under-eye fat and hollowness are more prominent. When both are present, we discuss them as separate areas at the consultation.

The surgery takes about 1 hour and is performed under local anesthesia or sedation. The anesthesia method is decided at the consultation after checking the scope of surgery and your individual condition.

Sutures are removed about 7 days after surgery. The incision is designed along the double eyelid line so that it lies within the fold, but how the scar settles varies from person to person, so we manage it while monitoring your progress.

An important part is deciding how much skin to remove. We precisely analyze whether ptosis is present, the degree of eyelid sagging, and the condition of fat and muscle to determine the extent of excision. A tight feeling may be present at first and changes as you recover.

When the eyelid skin has actually stretched and sagged, it is difficult to reduce the excess skin itself with a non-surgical procedure. If loss of elasticity is the main cause, we may first discuss device-based treatments, and the direction depends on the cause.

We decide based on how the incision heals and the swelling subsides. We check your condition at suture removal and follow-up visits and advise you on the timing individually.

We can also consult with you about under-eye fat repositioning at the same time. However, upper sagging and lower fat or hollowness have different causes, so whether to treat them at once or separately is decided after assessing your condition.

After surgery, you visit 1–2 times for suture removal and a progress check, and your progress is then reviewed at 1 day, 5 days, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months. Between visits, you can consult us about your progress via WhatsApp.
