Frequently Asked Questions

What is thread lifting?

Thread lifting is a non-incisional lifting procedure that inserts dissolvable threads (PDO, PCL, PLLA, etc.) under the skin to physically lift sagging skin. It simultaneously stimulates collagen production to improve skin elasticity. Edition Plastic Surgery custom-designs the thread type, insertion position, and quantity for each patient.

How long do thread lift results last?

It depends on the type of thread. PDO threads last about 6-8 months, and Silhouette Soft and Aptos threads last about 1 year to 1 year 6 months. The duration may differ depending on individual skin elasticity and the degree of aging.

How long is the recovery period after thread lifting?

Swelling and tightness are usually felt for about 3-7 days, and most people return to work and daily life from the next day. Temporary unevenness or tightness can appear while the tissue settles, but it usually improves within 1-2 weeks. Recovery time may differ depending on the treated area and your individual condition.

What is the difference between thread lifting and surgical lifting?

Thread lifting is non-incisional, so the recovery burden is relatively light and no incision scar remains, though temporary marks or indentations may appear at insertion sites, and the effect duration is limited. Surgical lifting (facelift) requires an incision and a longer recovery, but anchors down to the fascia layer, so results tend to last longer. We advise on the suitable method based on the degree of sagging and patient condition.

How much does thread lifting cost?

Thread lifting costs vary depending on the type, quantity, and treatment area. Edition Plastic Surgery provides accurate costs through custom design after in-person consultation.

Is thread lifting painful?

Performed under local or sedation anesthesia; the degree of pain varies by individual. A tight or stiff feeling may last 2-3 days after the procedure, and pain medication is prescribed if needed.

From what age can I get thread lifting?

Many start in their early 30s for preventive purposes. However, since sagging varies greatly between individuals, treatment is possible even in the late 20s if sagging has begun. The appropriate timing is determined through consultation.

Can thread lifting be combined with other procedures?

Yes, depending on the cause of sagging and skin condition, other treatments may also be considered together. Whether to combine them and in what order is discussed individually after the exam. At Edition, we consult on area-specific combination treatments under the name "Sil-lifting Omakase" (an in-house name).

What precautions should I take after thread lifting?

For the first 2 weeks, avoid opening your mouth widely, chewing gum, facial massage, strong pressure on the face, and sleeping face-down. Saunas and jjimjilbangs are recommended from about 2 weeks after the procedure. Care that applies strong pressure, such as meridian massage, is best avoided for at least 3 months.

Is repeat thread lifting possible?

Yes. About one month after the procedure we check your progress, reviewing both the lifting result and how you are recovering. Repeat treatment is not carried out on a fixed number of sessions; it is decided individually after checking your current condition and result.

Am I a candidate for a thread lift?

It depends on what is causing the sagging. At Edition, we first identify whether the sagging comes from the skin, fat, or retaining ligaments. For example, nasolabial folds are often a matter of lost volume rather than sagging, so a thread lift may not be the answer. If we judge after examining you that another method is more suitable, we will tell you so.

How is the type of thread chosen?

At Edition, we use PDO threads (Silhouette Fix and Mint), Silhouette Soft, and Aptos. Each thread differs in how long it lasts and how strongly it lifts, so we decide at the consultation based on the degree of sagging, the areas you want to improve, and how long you want the results to last.

How many threads are used?

The number of threads used varies by degree of sagging and area, and is explained at the design stage after the exam. However, Dr. Han Dae-hee notes that where and in what direction they are placed matters more than the count.

What is the difference between thread lifting and Ulthera or Thermage?

Ulthera (ultrasound) and Thermage (radiofrequency) are device-based procedures that stimulate the skin layers with thermal energy, while thread lifting directly lifts sagging tissue with threads. Because their purposes differ, they are sometimes combined, but there is an order and interval; for example, radiofrequency lifting (Density) is performed only after at least 4 to 6 weeks have passed since thread lifting.

Which do you recommend: thread lifting or facelift surgery?

Dr. Daehee Han explains that when skin sagging has progressed significantly, a facelift may be a more effective choice than a thread lift. Conversely, if sagging is in its early stages or a long recovery period is difficult, a thread lift is considered. We will go over the differences between the two methods with you during consultation.

How long do a thread lifting consultation and the procedure each take?

A consultation usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, and the procedure about 15 to 20 minutes. This may vary depending on your condition and the scope of the procedure.

Which director performs thread lifting?

Thread lifting is performed by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daehee Han. The same director carries through the entire process: analyzing the cause of sagging at the consultation, designing the thread type, number, and insertion direction, performing the procedure, and checking your progress afterward.
