Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between ptosis correction and double eyelid surgery?
Double eyelid surgery creates a double eyelid line, while ptosis correction strengthens the eye-opening muscles to make the eyes open wider. If you have ptosis, it is difficult to create clear eyes with double eyelids alone, so ptosis correction is performed together.
Will my eyes not look surprised after ptosis correction?
Edition precisely measures the degree of ptosis and corrects it within a natural range without overcorrection.
Which is better, non-incisional or incisional?
If ptosis is mild and the eyelids are thin, a non-incisional method is suitable. If it is moderate or severe, or if there is a lot of fat, an incisional method may be necessary. The decision is made after an accurate diagnosis.
How long do the results of ptosis correction last?
Because this surgery directly shortens and strengthens the levator muscle, the corrected structure itself tends to last a long time. However, the eyelids may sag again with aging, and how long the result lasts varies from person to person.
My eyes are different sizes, can they be corrected?
Yes, it is possible. We can measure the degree of ptosis in each eye to create symmetrical eyes.
Is ptosis correction permanent?
Because the levator muscle is directly shortened and strengthened, the result tends to last longer than with the buried-suture method. Natural changes from aging can still occur, so how long it lasts varies from person to person.
I tense my forehead when I open my eyes. Is that ptosis?
When the eye-opening muscle is weak, people raise their forehead and eyebrows to clear their field of vision, and this habit can lead to forehead wrinkles. However, the same appearance can also result from sagging eyelid skin, so the cause may differ. The two can only be distinguished by directly measuring levator muscle function, so we will advise you after diagnosis.
How can I check whether I have ptosis?
We judge this by measuring how much of the iris is covered by the upper eyelid when the eyes are open and how far the eye-opening muscle moves. This is difficult to judge from photos or impressions alone, so we recommend visiting to have it measured directly.
Can I have ptosis correction only, without creating a double eyelid line?
In the process of adjusting eye-opening strength, the eyelid may fold and form a crease, so a method that creates no crease at all is not always possible. However, the crease can be designed low and shallow to reduce how visible it is. If you first tell us the impression you want during the consultation, we will explain what is possible.
I already have double eyelids. Can I have ptosis correction on its own?
If your existing crease is well established and ptosis is the only problem, the surgery can be designed to adjust only the eye-opening strength. However, depending on the height and shape of the existing crease, refining it at the same time may give a more natural result, so the decision is made after looking at your current crease.
Are there cases where the eyes don't close well after ptosis correction?
Right after eye-opening strength is adjusted, you may feel that your eyes do not close completely, but most people adapt as the swelling subsides. However, recovery varies by individual and swelling, bruising, or asymmetry may occur, so follow-up observation is necessary. If discomfort persists, we will check it at a follow-up visit and take appropriate measures.
Will ptosis correction also improve forehead wrinkles?
If your forehead wrinkles are caused by a habit of raising your forehead to open your eyes, opening your eyes becomes easier and less force may be placed on the forehead. However, this is different from removing wrinkles that have already formed, and the degree of improvement varies from person to person.
How many days does recovery from ptosis correction take, and when can I return to work?
With the non-incisional method, swelling tends to decrease after 3–4 days, and no stitch removal is needed. However, recovery speed and results vary by individual, so if your schedule is tight, it is best to let us know during the consultation.
Opening my eyes feels awkward right after surgery. Is that normal?
While there is swelling, the added weight of the eyelids can make opening your eyes feel different from usual, and it gradually becomes more comfortable as the swelling subsides. Feeling a difference between the left and right sides is also common early on. We check this according to the follow-up schedule, and in between you can ask questions through real-time recovery consultations on WhatsApp.
My ptosis is fairly severe. Can the non-incisional method still work?
The non-incisional method is generally suited to thin eyelids with mild ptosis. For moderate or more severe ptosis, or when there is a lot of fat or skin laxity, an incisional method may be needed. The degree is determined by measuring levator muscle function, so we decide on the method after diagnosis.
Are there cases where revision surgery is needed after ptosis correction?
If the degree of correction differs from what you expected or some left–right difference remains, additional adjustment can be considered. However, judging before the swelling subsides and the tissue stabilizes can be misleading, so the decision is made after observing your progress sufficiently according to the follow-up schedule.
This surgery requires fine adjustments. Who performs it?
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Daehee Han personally measures levator muscle function during the consultation and personally performs the surgery and subsequent follow-up. Because the range of adjustment determines the result of ptosis correction, we operate so that the person who made the diagnosis is the one who performs the surgery.
