It is determined by the degree of eyelid sagging rather than age. If the sagging is severe, it is possible even from the 40s.

If ptosis is present, combining upper blepharoplasty with ptosis correction can yield better results. The decision is made after a precise analysis.

By avoiding excessive skin excision and performing precise surgery, such side effects are minimized.

If the cause of the sagging is the eyelid skin, we consider upper blepharoplasty to remove the loose skin; if weak eye-opening strength is the cause, we consider eye shape correction (ptosis correction). If the brows have also dropped, we may also consider a forehead and brow lift. Because multiple causes often overlap, we decide on the combination after diagnosis.

If only the eyelid skin is lax, upper blepharoplasty tends to be less burdensome, but if the eyebrow itself has dropped and is pressing on the eyelid, the result may be more natural when the forehead and brow are lifted as well. This depends on the position of the eyebrows and the condition of forehead wrinkles, so we will check it during the consultation.

The approach depends on the cause. When protruding fat is the main issue, under-eye fat repositioning can help, and when skin sagging is also present, lower blepharoplasty may be considered. If the main issues are loss of elasticity or fine wrinkles, supplementary procedures may also be considered, so we examine your condition in person and give you tailored guidance.

Under-eye fat repositioning focuses on moving protruding fat into hollow areas to smooth the contour, while lower blepharoplasty also addresses lax lower eyelid skin. If there is little skin sagging, repositioning alone may be enough; if sagging is pronounced, lower blepharoplasty is considered as well.

The goals are different. If the aim is to fill a hollow area immediately, a procedure such as filler is considered; if protruding fat and lax skin are the cause, filling alone will not smooth the contour, so surgery is considered. Which is right depends on whether hollowness or protrusion is the main cause, so we check this during the consultation.

Under-eye surgery can reduce dark circles, but the effect depends on the cause. Dark circles are classified as fat-related, vascular, pigmented, or mixed; for the pigmented type, skin treatments may help more than surgery, and the mixed type sometimes requires a combination of under-eye surgery and supplementary procedures. Identifying the type comes first, so we distinguish it during the consultation.

When lax skin presses on the eyelashes and causes them to poke the eyes, removing the excess skin can reduce this irritation. This is why upper blepharoplasty addresses not only appearance but also field of vision and this kind of functional discomfort. However, the cause may be different in some cases, so the decision is made after diagnosis.

A high crease can look out of place for your age, so we tend to remove the sagging skin and design a low crease close to your original eye shape. We determine the height by also looking at the distance to the eyebrow and the eyelid thickness, and if you tell us the impression you want during the consultation, we will reflect it.

Sutures are usually removed after 7 days, and daily activities and makeup are generally possible within 1 to 2 weeks. However, recovery speed and results vary from person to person, and swelling, bruising, and asymmetry may occur, so follow-up is necessary. The skin removed by surgery stays corrected, but surgery cannot prevent the eyelids and eyebrows from descending again with aging. How quickly sagging progresses again varies from person to person, and additional options may be considered depending on your condition later on.
