The buried suture method creates a crease with sutures and no incision, offering quick recovery and almost no scarring. The incisional method involves an incision in the skin to create a more defined and longer-lasting crease. The suitable method depends on eyelid thickness and the amount of fat.

The natural adhesion method induces natural adhesion through minimal openings. Its advantages are that the line lasts longer than with the suture (non-incisional) method, while recovery is faster than with the incisional method.

Buried-suture and semi-out methods involve a smaller incision area, while the incisional method is designed along the double-eyelid line. How the scar settles varies by individual.

Daily activities are possible after about 3–5 days for the buried suture and natural adhesion methods, and after about 1–2 weeks for the incisional method. It takes about 1–3 months for the natural crease to fully settle.

If you have ptosis with weak eye-opening strength, double eyelid surgery alone may not create well-defined eyes, so ptosis correction may be recommended at the same time. The decision is made after a detailed diagnosis.

Semi-out is an intermediate form between in-line and out-line, starting from the inner corner of the eye and naturally extending outwards. It gives a glamorous look without being as overwhelming as an out-line.

While traditional buried suture methods are fixed only with thread knots and carry a risk of loosening, natural adhesion methods induce adhesion between tissues through holes, resulting in more robust and natural outcomes.

Natural-adhesion double eyelid surgery allows a relatively quick return to daily life. Individual results vary, but swelling subsides markedly after 3–4 days and a natural line forms within 1–2 weeks.

If the eyelid skin is thin with little sagging, the non-incisional method, which forms a crease without an incision, tends to be suitable; if the upper eyelid is thick or there is significant sagging skin or fat, an incisional method that removes skin and fat together may help form the crease. Which is right can only be judged by directly checking eyelid thickness, degree of sagging, and amount of fat, so we decide together after diagnosis during the consultation.

The difference lies in how much of the crease is visible when the eyes are open. With an in-fold, the crease is mostly hidden when the eyes are open; with an out-fold, the crease is visible all the way along the eye; and a semi-out fold falls in between, flowing naturally from the inner part outward. We design a height that suits the face by looking at the length of the eye, the angle of the outer corner, and the distance from the start of the crease to the eyebrow.

If the upper eyelid is thick with a lot of fat, a crease created without an incision may form thinly or fade over time. In such cases, we also consider an incisional method that removes skin and fat together. The decision depends on the degree of thickness, so we will advise you after diagnosis.

If you also have ptosis — a weak eye-opening muscle that makes you look sleepy — creating a double eyelid crease alone may not make your eyes look clearer. In that case, ptosis correction is included in the design. If there is no ptosis, only double eyelid surgery is performed, and whether to combine them is decided by measuring levator muscle function during the consultation.

With the non-incisional method, swelling decreases markedly after 3–4 days, allowing a relatively quick return to daily life, and the crease looks natural within 1–2 weeks. However, recovery speed and results vary by individual, and swelling, bruising, or reduced sensation may occur, so follow-up observation is necessary. If you have an important event, please mention it during the consultation and we will adjust the timing together.

On the day of surgery and for the first few days, it helps to keep applying cold compresses and to raise your pillow so your head stays above your heart. Salty food, alcohol, and strenuous activity can worsen swelling, so it is best to avoid them in the early period. To reduce irritation around the eyes and the risk of infection, it is best to avoid contact lenses and eye makeup in the early period. When you can resume depends on the swelling and wound healing, so we will advise you after checking your eyes at a follow-up visit.

The non-incisional method uses only tiny holes, so there is less concern about scarring than with a long skin incision, and it tends to look natural even when the eyes are closed. However, the recovery course and degree of scarring can vary with skin type and constitution, so we monitor your progress.

By measuring the degree of eyelid sagging, eye-opening strength, and line height on each side, we can create a design that takes asymmetry into account. However, differences in the original eye structure may not become completely identical, so we first explain during consultation how closely they can be matched.

Rather than age, what matters are the condition of the eyelids, the degree of physical growth, and your own decision. We recommend that minors visit with a parent or guardian for the consultation. The recommended timing differs depending on each person's condition, so we will advise you during the consultation.
