Frequently Asked Questions

After a bulbous nose surgery, will the tip of the nose not become too sharp?

Correction is performed within a natural range, and an appropriate nose tip shape is designed considering overall facial harmony.

Will it be effective if my skin is thick?

We apply a surgical method tailored to your skin thickness. By strengthening the cartilage structure, we can create a slim nasal tip even with thick skin.

Is bulbous nose surgery possible as a standalone procedure?

Yes, nasal tip correction can be performed alone. It can also be combined with bridge surgery if necessary.

How can I tell whether I have a bulbous nose?

A nasal tip that looks round, blunt, and spread out is considered a bulbous nose. The causes include widely spread tip cartilage, thick skin and soft tissue, or a lot of fat, and two or more may overlap. Because the surgical method depends on the cause, diagnosis comes first.

Do surgical methods differ depending on the cause of a bulbous nose?

It differs. When the cartilages are spread wide, the width is reduced by suturing the cartilage together, and when support is insufficient, the tip is projected with a cartilage graft. When the skin and soft tissue are thick, that thickness is also taken into account in the design.

Are wide alae and a bulbous nose the same thing?

They are different. A bulbous nose has a blunt tip, while the alae are the wing-like parts on both sides of the nose. However, the two often occur together, so tip correction and alar reduction are sometimes evaluated together, and the scope is determined after checking the overall proportions.

My nasal tip is fleshy. Is it possible without an implant?

Implant-free rhinoplasty is suitable for people whose bridge is already high but whose tip is blunt and droops. A large, bulbous tip shows more improvement when it is projected, but if the bridge is low, the connection with the tip can look unnatural, so silicone may be needed. The decision is made after checking the bone structure with 3D CT.

Won't my nasal tip end up looking pinched?

If cartilage is gathered too tightly when the nasal tip skin is thin or soft tissue is lacking, the tip may look narrow and pointed, with a pinched appearance. It is important to design with width, rotation, and proportion in mind rather than emphasizing height alone.

What is the cartilage suturing (tip-binding) technique?

This method narrows the width by suturing together nasal tip cartilages that have spread apart. If needed, cartilage grafting is also performed to project the tip. Which combination is right is decided by looking at the shape of the cartilage and the thickness of the skin.

Won't raising the nasal tip make my nose look longer?

Raising only the height of the nasal tip can make the nose look longer, so we adjust the angle while looking at the nasolabial angle and nose length together. We design within a range suited to your facial proportions to avoid overcorrection.

Can the nose tip spread out again after surgery?

We proceed with the aim of maintaining the shape by reinforcing the cartilage structure, but progress varies from person to person depending on the tissue condition and the recovery process. We check the shape during regular follow-up.

What cartilage is used for bulbous nose tip correction?

When a nasal tip graft is needed, we choose among septal cartilage, ear cartilage, and rib cartilage based on the support required and the amount of tissue available. If suturing the cartilage alone is sufficient, a separate graft may not be necessary.

How long does bulbous nose correction take, and what kind of anesthesia is used?

The surgery takes about 1 to 1.5 hours and is performed under sedation. About 2 to 3 follow-up visits are needed, and no hospitalization is required.

How long is the recovery period after bulbous nose correction?

Sutures are removed after about 7 days, after which you can return to daily life. Swelling lingers longest at the nose tip, so the final shape takes longer to settle, and recovery speed varies from person to person.

How are aftercare and follow-up handled after bulbous nose correction?

Regular follow-up takes place at 1 day, 5 days, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery, and in between you can ask about your progress via WhatsApp. Dr. Daehee Han personally handles everything from consultation to surgery and follow-up.

What side effects can occur with bulbous nose correction?

Bleeding, infection, swelling, asymmetry, re-widening of the nasal tip, and other issues may occur, and their degree varies from person to person. Please decide after a thorough consultation.
