Frequently Asked Questions

Will the nose not become lower after hump nose surgery?

After reducing the protruding areas, we design to maintain the overall bridge height. If necessary, height is supplemented with implants or autologous tissue.

Is osteotomy not dangerous?

3D CT analysis precisely calculates osteotomy range and angle for safe execution. Edition performs surgery based on extensive osteotomy experience.

Is there a possibility of recurrence after hump nose surgery?

Direct correction of bone and cartilage makes recurrence highly unlikely.

How can I tell whether I have a hump nose?

If the middle of the nasal bridge bulges upward when viewed from the side, it is considered a hump nose. However, whether the bone is raised, the cartilage is raised, or the nose tip has dropped so that the bridge only looks that way relatively cannot be distinguished from the outside. The type can only be accurately determined by checking the nasal bone and cartilage with a 3D CT scan.

What is the difference between a bony hump and a cartilaginous hump?

Where and how the area is refined depends on whether the raised part is bone or cartilage. If the bone is the main cause, osteotomy is also needed; if it is cartilage, the focus is on how much cartilage to refine. It is common for both to be involved, so we distinguish them with a 3D CT scan.

I thought I had a dorsal hump — could it actually be a drooping nasal tip?

That can happen. When the nasal tip droops downward, the bump on the bridge becomes relatively more pronounced and can look like a hump. In such cases, setting the position of the tip may come before shaving down the bridge, so we first identify the cause during diagnosis.

I have both a dorsal hump and a crooked nose. Which should be addressed first?

It is common to have both a dorsal hump and a crooked nose. Because the deviation of the nasal bone must be corrected while refining the bridge, we first check the degree of deviation of the nasal bone and septum with 3D CT and then determine the order and extent of correction.

I heard that a dorsal hump can't be completely removed even with surgery. Is that true?

The goal of the surgery is to smooth the line of the bridge by refining the protruding bone and cartilage, but if the tip drops, the hump can appear to return. That is why we design not only the bridge but also the tip. How much can be corrected depends on the condition of the nose.

I'm a man. If the hump is removed completely, will my face look weaker?

For men, the target angle of the bridge line is often set differently from that for women, so how much of the hump to refine is also adjusted to the facial proportions. If you tell us the impression you want during the consultation, we will reflect it in the design.

Will my bridge look lower after dorsal hump correction?

Shaving down the protruding area lowers the bridge by the same amount, so height is supplemented with an implant or autologous tissue when needed. How much height to keep is designed by looking at the proportions of the whole face.

Does an osteotomy cause severe swelling or bruising of the nose?

Surgery involving bone can cause swelling and bruising, and the degree and duration vary depending on each person's health condition. We check your recovery progress at each stage during regular follow-up visits.

Can a dorsal hump be corrected without an implant?

One option is to refine the protruding area and then supplement the necessary height with autologous tissue, which is considered for those who want a natural nasal line. However, this depends on the remaining bridge height, so the decision is made after checking the condition of the nasal bone and cartilage with 3D CT.

My nasal bridge is crooked and I also have nasal congestion. Can both be addressed together?

When the nasal bones or septum are crooked, the airway is often narrowed along with the external appearance. There is an approach that includes septal correction to address both appearance and breathing, and if it qualifies as a medical condition, coverage depends on the terms of your private medical insurance.

How long does dorsal hump correction take, and what kind of anesthesia is used?

The surgery takes about 1 to 2 hours and is performed under sedation. About 2 to 3 follow-up visits are needed, and no hospitalization is required. This may vary depending on the scope of correction.

How are aftercare and follow-up handled after dorsal hump correction?

Regular follow-up takes place at 1 day, 5 days, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery, and in between you can ask about your progress via WhatsApp. When osteotomy is included, we also check how the bone is settling.

What side effects can occur with dorsal hump correction?

Bleeding, infection, swelling, asymmetry, irregularity at the osteotomy site, and other issues may occur, and their degree varies from person to person. Please decide after a thorough consultation.
