Frequently Asked Questions
When do the effects of Ultherapy appear?
Results are not immediate. A tightening effect gradually becomes noticeable starting 3 weeks after the procedure.
How many shots are needed per area?
Generally, the double chin area requires 300~400 shots, while the full face requires approximately 600 shots. The number may vary depending on the area and individual condition.
Is sedation anesthesia required?
Ulthera targets ultrasound energy to the deeper skin layers, which may cause intermittent discomfort. However, pain can be managed with topical, injection, and vibration anesthesia. Sedation anesthesia is not recommended because it becomes difficult to monitor pain response, which increases the risk of nerve damage and burns.
Can Ulthera be performed after a thread lift?
Thread lifting requires about 4-6 weeks of recovery afterward, and Ulthera is sometimes planned together after that. However, since individual conditions vary, please proceed after consulting your doctor.
How deep into the skin does ultrasound lifting reach?
Ulthera is a procedure that delivers ultrasound energy down to the fascial layer (SMAS) beneath the skin. Targeting the deeper layer rather than the surface is what distinguishes it from other device-based procedures.
What is the difference between thread lifting and Ulthera?
Thread lifting is a procedure that inserts threads to physically pull sagging tissue and reposition it, while Ulthera is a procedure that delivers ultrasound energy to the deeper layers to manage elasticity. The choice depends on whether the cause is sagging or loss of elasticity, and the two are sometimes combined in sequence.
How is it different from radiofrequency lifting (Thermage)?
Ulthera delivers ultrasound energy to the deeper skin layer, while RF lifting delivers heat to the dermis to induce collagen regeneration. Since the layers reached and mechanisms differ, they are sometimes planned together, with whether to combine and the device/shot count decided after consultation.
I'm concerned about my double chin and jawline. Can it help?
The double chin and jawline are areas commonly treated with Ulthera, usually designed at about 300 to 400 shots. However, the approach to a double chin differs depending on whether it is caused by loss of elasticity or the weight of fat, so we discuss whether to combine treatments after identifying the cause.
How long does the procedure take?
It depends on the number of shots, but it usually takes about 30 to 60 minutes. Including anesthesia preparation and post-treatment instructions, your visit may take longer.
How painful is it?
You may feel intermittent pain as the energy reaches the deeper layers of the skin. We manage pain with topical anesthesia, injected anesthesia, and vibration anesthesia during the procedure, and the perception of pain varies from person to person.
How long do the effects last?
It is generally expected to last about 6 months to 1 year. This may vary depending on skin elasticity, the progression of aging, and lifestyle habits, so we monitor your progress and discuss the next session.
Can I resume daily activities right after Ulthera?
You can resume daily activities right after the procedure. However, there may be temporary redness, swelling, or a tingling sensation, which mostly subsides within a few days, and responses vary from person to person.
Can Ulthera be used instead of facelift surgery?
Ulthera is a non-surgical procedure for managing firmness, so the recovery burden is light, but when sagging has progressed considerably, the extent of improvement may be limited. After checking which stage you are at, we will discuss whether to manage it with a procedure or whether it falls within the scope of surgery.
Does it also help with nasolabial folds?
Nasolabial folds can form when tissue descends, but they often look deeper because of lost volume. If loss of elasticity is the cause, it can help; if hollowing is the cause, we evaluate ways to restore volume as well before deciding on the direction.
What reactions can occur after Ulthera?
You may experience temporary redness, swelling, or a tingling sensation, which usually subsides within a few days. Because responses vary from person to person, we proceed while monitoring your progress.
How much does Ulthera cost?
The number of shots differs depending on the area and your condition, and so does the cost. After the number of shots is designed during the consultation, our consultation manager will explain the cost.
How many months apart should I repeat it?
Because results are expected to last 6 months to 1 year, we check your progress around that time and discuss the next session. The interval may vary depending on your skin condition and care goals.
