Frequently Asked Questions
How long is the recovery period after eye surgery?
Swelling peaks 3-5 days after surgery and mostly subsides within 1-2 weeks. A natural double eyelid line forms over 1-3 months, with final results visible after 6 months. Return to daily life is possible after about 7-10 days.
What is the difference between non-incisional and incisional methods?
The non-incisional method creates a line with thread without cutting the skin, offering faster recovery, but is suitable for thin eyelid skin with less fat. The incisional method cuts the skin to remove excess skin and fat, suitable for complex cases like overlapping creases or sunken eyes.
How is overlapping double eyelid crease corrected?
Overlapping creases occur when a new line forms above the existing one, and correction methods vary by cause. Through adhesion release, fat repositioning, and fascia fixation, it is corrected to a single clean line. Edition Plastic Surgery proposes the optimal method after precise diagnosis.
How much does eye surgery cost?
Eye surgery costs vary depending on the method (non-incisional/incisional), correction scope, and additional procedures (lateral canthoplasty, epicanthoplasty, fat grafting, etc.). Edition Plastic Surgery provides accurate surgical plans and costs after in-person consultation.
Can eye surgery be combined with other procedures?
Yes. Combining eye surgery with lateral canthoplasty, epicanthoplasty, or under-eye fat repositioning can achieve more harmonious results. We propose optimal combinations considering overall facial proportions.
How is sunken eye corrected?
Sunken eyes appear hollow due to insufficient fat above the eyelid. Volume is restored through autologous fat grafting or filler, and double eyelid surgery is combined if needed to create vibrant eyes.
Can ptosis (sleepy eyes) be corrected with surgery?
Yes. Ptosis is a condition where the eye cannot fully open due to weakened levator muscle function. Through muscle shortening or fascia fixation, we strengthen the eye-opening force and create clear, defined eyes.
Will there be scars after eye surgery?
The non-incisional method leaves virtually no scars as there is no cutting. For the incisional method, the incision line is hidden within the double eyelid crease and becomes nearly invisible over time. Proper post-operative care minimizes scarring.
What precautions should I take before eye surgery?
Stop taking medications that affect blood clotting (aspirin, ibuprofen, etc.) 2 weeks before surgery. Discontinue contact lens wear 3 days before surgery, and come without makeup on the day of surgery.
Is revision eye surgery possible?
Yes. If the line loosens, overlapping creases appear, or asymmetry occurs after previous surgery, it can be corrected through revision surgery. We recommend waiting at least 6 months after the previous surgery and propose the optimal method after precise tissue diagnosis.
How are ptosis correction and double eyelid surgery different?
Double eyelid surgery creates a crease on the eyelid, while ptosis correction treats ptosis, a weakness of the muscle that opens the eye, to change how wide the eye opens. In some cases creating a line alone is enough, and in others the muscle must also be addressed, so we first check your eye-opening strength at the consultation.
In what cases is under-eye fat repositioning performed?
It is considered when under-eye fat has pushed forward, casting a shadow that looks like dark circles. Rather than simply removing the fat, it is moved into the hollow area to reduce the step-off; if the darkness is caused by pigmentation, surgery may not be the answer, so we first identify the cause.
Which is right for me, double eyelid surgery or eye shape correction (ptosis correction)?
It depends on your eye-opening strength, the thickness and laxity of the eyelid skin, the amount of fat, and the degree of asymmetry. Because this is difficult to judge from photos alone, we check it directly during an in-person consultation before deciding on a direction, and if we judge that surgery is not needed right now, we will tell you so.
Isn't sedation risky?
We proceed after assessing your fitness for anesthesia with pre-operative blood tests and an electrocardiogram and checking the medications you are taking and any underlying conditions. On the day of anesthesia, fasting is required for 8 hours before sedation and 12 hours before general anesthesia, and since you cannot drive yourself after anesthesia, we recommend coming with a companion. Reactions to anesthesia vary from person to person, so please tell us about your health condition in full at the consultation.
When can I start wearing makeup after eye surgery?
After suture removal, it is common to begin with partial makeup that avoids the eye area; eye makeup that directly touches the incision should wait until the wound has healed. Recovery speed varies from person to person, so we will advise you on timing after checking your condition at follow-up visits.
My wedding is a month away — can I have eye surgery?
Most swelling subsides within 1–2 weeks, but it takes 1–3 months for the crease to settle, and the final result is assessed at 6 months. If you have an important event in a month, it may overlap with the period that will show in photos, so in many cases it is difficult for us to recommend it. It is best to decide on the timing during the consultation, taking both your schedule and the recovery period into account.
How long should progress be monitored after eye surgery?
Regular follow-up takes place at 1 day, 5 days, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery, with a separate visit for suture removal. Swelling, bruising, and temporary numbness may occur, and recovery speed and results vary from person to person, so follow-up is necessary; in between, you can consult us about your condition via WhatsApp.
